Rhinoplasty - Dr Ben Wallwork

Rhinoplasty is surgery to reshape the nose. This may be necessary to correct a deformity that has developed naturally or as the result of previous trauma. The surgery is often combined with procedures to improve breathing through the nose (functional rhinoplasty) or purely as a procedure to alter the appearance (cosmetic rhinoplasty).

Rhinoplasty is usually performed under a general anaesthetic. Patients can be discharged on the day of surgery or the day after the procedure. The surgery can be performed via a ‘closed approach” in which all incisions are hidden inside the nose or via an ‘external approach’ in which a small incision is made across the columella (the tissue between the nostrils). The decision as to which approach is used depends on patient preference and the extent of surgery. A small plaster is often placed across the bridge of the nose for 5 days. Packing of the nose is only very rarely necessary.

At your consultation with the surgeon you will have the opportunity to discuss your concerns and wishes regarding the appearance of your nose. The surgeon will be able to advise on what is possible to achieve and what the risks and benefits of the procedure are.

As Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeons, the surgeons at Greenslopes ENT are formally trained in Rhinoplasty and have a subspecialty interest  and considerable experience in this form of surgery.
